Change of Plans

6 Mar

Well…this past week has been an interesting one.

We went to the doctors office and got the ball rolling on this baby thing. Then they hit us with the cost; which was expected. What wasn’t expected was all of the additional fees that we didn’t know about. So we have realized that our IVF dreams are going to have to wait a few more years. Which is okay; Charlie was sad about this but we know that it is for the best. We cannot bring a child into the world and then struggle financially because we didn’t plan well.

So now we shall move forward with using my egg…so insemination here we come. We had originally planned to use Charlie’s egg first and I carry the child. For our second child we were going to use my egg (and I carry) and go through insemination. So now its  just flipped. Charlie is concerned about her eggs getting old but I told her not to worry. Technology is a wonderful thing and you are only 32.

Currently, we are wanting to hear back from our RE on how to move forward.

Sounds like you’re really thinking it through logically without getting completely caught up in the emotional pull – very, very smart, ladies. I can imagine it’s really tough though – especially if you want this so bad. Best of luck with your journey.

It’s $16,000 for the IVF; however there are the following additional fees:

      – Medications for me $2,000 – $6,000
      – Medications for Charlie $4,700
      – Non-Refundable Downpayment $2,500
      – Legal Contract for CO-IVF $700
      – Updating our Wills $800
      – Counselor Approval $350 per session (Possible 2 Sessions $700)
      – Estimated cost of second parent adoption $2,300

      Total: $33,700

Just wanted to ask the same as Jen. How high are the costs? What did they tell you?
